ISSUES

FIGHTING INFLATION

Senator Jim Boyd recognizes the challenges Florida families face given the high cost of groceries and other essential goods. Senator Boyd has advanced broad based tax cuts year after year to support families and small businesses as they struggle with the inflation crisis caused by Joe Biden’s destructive fiscal policies.

In 2024, the Senate’s tax cuts provided more than $1.5 billion in tax relief, including four tax holidays to stock up on school supplies, disaster supplies and essential items for the home. In addition, the Legislature passed permanent tax exemptions on hygiene products, diapers, strollers and baby clothing to help families save more of their hard-earned money.

SECURING OUR BORDERS

Public safety is one of the most important roles of government. Yet, due to the failure of the Biden-Harris administration to secure our borders, criminals are bringing violence and drugs to communities across the Southeast.

As part of the Florida Legislature, Senator Jim Boyd has increased penalties for illegal immigrants who commit crimes and reaffirmed Florida as a law and order state. Crime – especially from illegals – will not be tolerated in the Sunshine State.

BRINGING DOWN INSURANCE COSTS

Senator Jim Boyd has developed and implemented comprehensive reforms to rein in frivolous litigation and bring down the cost of insurance premiums. These major policy changes are beginning to stabilize the market, bringing more competition and greater choice for consumers.

The Legislature also provided more immediate relief with a one-year tax exemption on insurance premiums, totaling $500 million.

EXPANDING AFFORDABLE HOUSING OPTIONS

The cost of housing in Florida has skyrocketed in recent years. There’s not enough options to meet the demand, and workers are forced to pay high fees, spend more time commuting and have less time with their families.

In 2023, Senator Jim Boyd shepherded the Live Local Act, a comprehensive statewide strategy to increase affordable housing opportunities. The legislation works with developers to create more affordable options, increases supply for multifamily housing and incentivizes home ownership.

BUYING AMERICAN FIRST

Senator Jim Boyd led the effort to prioritize American made products used in public works projects. Senate Bill 674, passed and signed into law in 2024, requires that projects funded by Florida taxpayers choose steel and iron made in the United States over the lower quality products that come from Russia and China.

Buying American first supports American jobs and American families while ensuring that our infrastructure is strong and resilient.

ENSURING PARENTS HAVE A CHOICE IN THEIR CHILD'S EDUCATION

As a father and grandfather, Senator Jim Boyd recognizes the important role families play in their child’s education. In 2023, the Florida Legislature passed legislation to expand school choice eligibility to all Florida students. Whether it is another school in the district, a charter school alternative or private school in the region, parents have options to consider when choosing the best environment for their students.

No matter where students go to school, parents should have a voice in major decisions involving their students. In 2022, the Florida Legislature reinforced the parents’ fundamental right to make decisions regarding the care and upbringing of their children. Conversations about name changes, gender and other personal characteristics must involve a parent or guardian.

CONSERVING FLORIDA'S NATURAL SPACES

Families, seniors and tourists flock to Florida for its natural beauty, pristine waters and unique wildlife. However, the rapid growth in population and tourism poses a serious threat to the very characteristics that make Florida a world-class destination. It is critical to restore, conserve and protect Florida’s natural spaces for the health of our environment, for our economy and for future generations to enjoy.

Senator Boyd has made historic investments in expanding Florida’s Wildlife Corridor, a series of connected public and private lands that provide habitat for endangered species. Through land acquisition and conservation easements, these lands are forever protected from development, ensuring that they will help preserve Florida’s natural beauty, restore Florida’s water resources and generate oxygen to the atmosphere.
